About six miles north of Walt Disney World is a great little town called Windermere. I love the “Old Florida” feel of this community; unpaved roads, white concrete street signs, and historic lake estates dating all the way back to 1889, when Windermere was established. Many celebrities live within the town’s secluded borders, and in a nearby subdivision called Isleworth. I think you owe it to yourself to at least consider joining them.
If you take a walk around, it’s not hard to see why this calm, affluent area is so popular. One thing you’ll notice is that the streets are less congested than those in most Orlando suburbs. That is because the town has taken aggressive city-planning and legal measures over the years to prevent the roads from getting clogged up by truckers and through-traffic. The result has been that Windermere’s roads are mostly used by its residents, which makes living here all the more relaxing.
Your family will truly enjoy living so close to Disney World; some of Windermere’s residents can literally kick back in chairs and watch the park’s fireworks show from the comfort of their own back yards. Imagine being able to jump in the car for a quick drive to a world-famous attraction that families around the globe travel thousands of miles to visit each year. That’s a privilege not many can claim to have!
One final thing I’d like to add about Windermere; it’s a recreational haven. The nine interconnected lakes that make up the Butler Chain surround the town. This popular fishing destination houses a healthy population of a variety of different freshwater fish. This same chain of lakes also provides the scenic backdrop for the area’s excellent country clubs, although you might wish the lakes didn’t exist if your golf ball decides to go for a swim.
